Why Photography

Ruonan Yan is an artist who finds inspiration in exploring various creative mediums, each offering a unique perspective on the world. Photography has been a lifelong passion for her, a way to capture fleeting moments that resonate beyond the surface.

Although she began focusing intensively on photography during the pandemic, it has become a central part of her artistic expression, particularly in street photography, where the spontaneous beauty of everyday life unfolds.

Yan strives to create images that linger, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and discover new layers with each glance. Through her work, she aims to capture more than a single moment—she crafts visual narratives that continue to reveal themselves long after the first look.

WhyPeaches

Ruonan Yan depicts peaches in an intriguing way. Her peach paintings are not merely showing a flawless beauty, in addition to that, she likes to present complex emotions under the ecstatic surface.

Peach, the only subject in the paintings, has always been a symbol of youth and desire, two things that always associate with each other. Yan uses watercolor to create a great variety of texture. In her hand, every peach is unique.

Yan’s other inspirations also include the book Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov and 1999 movie The Virgin Suicides by director Sofia Coppola .

Although Yan’s peach paintings are often read as a sexual expression, she has never thought of that way. But she doesn’t mind the audience to appreciate her work from different perspectives.
